Adoptions

If you are looking for a special pet to share your home and life with, then thank you for considering adoption first! Each week we have new cats and dogs needing homes, so check back often! All of our pets are spayed/neutered before being placed in their new homes. If they are not fixed (such as when under 4 months of age), you are required to purchase a spay/neuter voucher from your vet before you can adopt them.

Adopting a new pet is a big responsibility and we have some requirements that each applicant must follow to adopt one of our rescue animals.

Be Their Valentine ... An Adoption Event!

Meet adoptable cats, kittens, dogs & puppies from 5 WA shelters and rescues. All animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. Professional dog trainers, shelter staff and volunteers will be on hand to help you find the right match for your family.

Pet Adoption Prices

All adoptions are cash only, and can be subject to change.

  • Adult Dogs: Adoptions fees are $150.
  • Puppies: Adoption fees are $100. We require for unaltered dogs (such as puppies under 4 months of age) that you purchase a spay/neuter receipt from your vet. This assures us that the dog will be altered
  • Adult Cats and Kittens: Adoption fees are $45. With kittens, you also get a voucher to have the kitten spayed or neutered (at no cost to you) at a local participating veterinarian. If you are from out of town you will need a pre-paid spay / neuter certificate from your own veterinarian

How Are Our Applications Reviewed?

We try to place our listed pets in the best possible homes, so we reserve the right to check references and deny an adoption should we feel it is not the right match between the applicant and the pet. All dogs and cats are temperament tested prior to being placed. We will often rely on the previous owner's statement to provide you with as much information as possible.

Donations: In addition to the fee, we encourage you to consider giving a donation. Many of our rescue pets have extensive medical and care costs. Any amount is always appreciated. Thank you!

PetCo in YakimaPetCo Adopt-A-Thons 2012

We have regular adoption events at each Saturday at PetCo in Union Gap [map]. Please come and see some of our adoptable dogs and cats there. There will be applications there to fill out and hand in. Please know that applications have to be approved first and then you shall be contacted if yours has been accepted. Cats and kittens will be able to go to their new approved home the day of the event. If there is a certain dog or cat you see here on our Petfinder site, let us know as we can try to make arrangements to have that animal there. Please contact us for more information.

Barn Cats! Yakima Valley Pet Rescue is looking for homes for barn cats. Barn cats are typically feral cats with questionable people skills. These cats will be spayed or neutered and there will be no charge to you. The only condition that we ask is that they be provided food, water, and shelter. Contact Us for more information. Our barn cats are not listed on our petfinder page.
